Autobiography

Hello and a very warm welcome !!! I am Woei Wan (玮雯) and my family name is Tan (陈).

Since this is an autobiography, let's start with my educational background. The early parts of my student life were spent as a Rafflesian, first at Raffles Girls' Secondary School and then at Raffles Junior College. My next stop is the National University of Singapore, where I received the B.Eng (Electrical, Hons) degree in 1993 and the M.Eng degree for the dissertation "Tuning 2-by-2 multi-loop PI controllers using relay feedback" in 1995. I then swapped sunny Singapore for the the University of Oxford, earning the D.Phil degree for work on "Self-learning neurofuzzy control of non-linear systems".

I am currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore. My research interests centre round the application of systems science and computational intelligence paradigms for controller design, metrology, and fault detection and diagnosis. In particular, I have published papers on : (i) intelligent modelling, control and fault diagnosis using computational intelligence techniques, (ii) application of advanced control algorithms to the semiconductor manufacturing industry, (iii) microelectromechanical pressure sensors, and (iv) auto-tuning of multivariable systems. Besides research, I am also committed to teaching. I mainly teach undergraduate students and have won numerous Teaching Awards.

Outside work, I enjoy surfing the internet and curling up in bed with a good book. I also play tennis and golf, where the strategy is to hit the ball as hard as possible to vent frustration. That's all, folks !!! If you have any comments, feel free to drop me a note at wwtan@nus.edu.sg.
