B. INSTRUCTIONS FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION

  1. Instructional guide for online registration of modules from Graduate Studies Office, Faculty of Engineering (GSE) applies to all Engineering graduate students and can be viewed on this link.

  2. For online module registration by Engineering Graduate student, you are to access via the intranet page at http://www.gse.nus.edu.sg/online with your NUSNET ID and password during the stipulated period.
    (Format of NUSNET ID: E0xxxxxx or A0xxxxxx or g0xxxxxx)

  3. NUSNET ID and password are issued to all registered NUS student. These would allow registered student to access NUS student portal, restricted student website etc.

  4. Do ensure that you do not encounter any class time-table or examination date clash when making selection to read your modules for the semester.

  5. You are advised to print out a confirmation sheet after completing the online add/drop module registration system for retention and verification purpose (if required).

 

C. TIMETABLE

  1. Refer to our Class Timetable webpage at https://www.ece.nus.edu.sg/academic/timetables/ for the list of ECE graduate modules that are offered in current semester. Note that some course modules may not be offered in a particular semester/year.

  2. Schedule for Examination are located on the Registrar's Office website at http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/event/exam.html

  3. Make use of the NUS timetable builder to check for potential clash in class or examination schedule.

  4. Late information and/or changes in the timetable will be posted at the ECE e-Station (Students) > Graduate > Announcements / Notices webpage and/or through the NUS student group email account.

  5. The onus is on the student to refer to the website/email for such information.

 

D. PROCEDURE FOR MODULE REGISTRATION

  1. Register for ECE Graduate Modules
    1. Register ONLINE at the GSE website: http://www.gse.nus.edu.sg/online with student NUSNET ID and password. Refer to the "Instructions for online registration" if you need further guide.
    2. This applies to all ECE graduate level modules with EE prefix code, unless otherwise specified.
    3. Registration is on a first-come-first serve basis, subject to quota restriction and module condition such as: pre-requisite, co-requisite, preclusion.

  2. Application for ECE Undergraduate Level Modules
    1. MANUAL application required (use relevant form based on type of degree programme).
    2. Only UG level 4 and above can be considered.
    3. Student to attach a clear copy of bachelor degree transcript for checking purpose. department might request for further info such as syllabus (if required). Request will not be supported if you have taken a similar module previously.
    4. Research student to note: Student need to obtain Supervisor’s approval/support on form or attached email approval (specification required), before submitting the application form to ECE Department.

  3. Application for non-EE prefix Module Code (i.e. cross department/faculty modules)
    1. MANUAL application required (use relevant form based on type of degree programme).
    2. This applies to module with non-EE prefix code, regardless graduate (GD) or undergraduate (UG) level. Only UG level 4 and above can be considered.
    3. If applying for a UG level module, to attach a clear photocopy copy of bachelor degree transcript for checking purpose. Request will not be supported if you have taken similar module previously.
    4. Research student to note: Student need to obtain Supervisor’s approval/support on form or attached email approval (specification required), before submitting the application form to ECE Department.

  4. Did not meet pre-requisite or co-requisite module condition
    1. For waiver of pre-requisite or co-requisite condition request, student is to seek and obtain approval directly from course lecturer (via email or in-person). Course lecturer can determine if student have the necessary background to be granted the waiver.
    2. If waiver granted by course lecturer, student is to submit MANUAL request form (use relevant form based on type of degree programme) to the ECE office after course lecturer has sign on the form; or attached email approval from course lecturer.
    3. Research student to note: Student need to obtain Supervisor’s approval/support on form or attached email approval (specification required), before submitting the application form to ECE Department.

  5. Appealing for over-subscribed module
    1. Use relevant MANUAL application form and provide reason why course lecturer should consider your appeal.
    2. Request will be compiled on waiting list and course lecturer/s will decide after the first or second lecture.
    3. Research student to note: Student need to obtain Supervisor’s approval/support on form or attached email approval (specification required), before submitting the application form to ECE Department.

  6. Unable to drop registered module online
    1. This issue might arise due to 1 or a combination of reason:
      1. System block: the drop request is affecting a co-requisite, pre-requisite condition of another registered module.
      2. Course module was added on behalf by ECE admin staff.
      3. Request would affect the minimum number of modules required to be taken in a semester.
    2. Use relevant MANUAL application form and provide reason to submit within stipulated period.

All above request [D. item 2 to 6] will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to:


  • The relevance of the module to your degree of study, approval of student department and the approval of the department offering the module (host).
  • Quota/placing availability, license restriction, condition such as: pre-requisite, co-requisite, preclusion.
  • Students’ department approval must be sought. Not allowed to approach/pester module host department. (Applicable to non EE prefix module request)
  • Student will be notified of outcome of request via email to their NUS student email account once result is out. Latest 3 days before penalty period begin.

E. FORMS (MODULE RELATED)

  1. Hardcopy module application forms can be obtained from the ECE Department Office during office opening hours; or
  2. Print out from the ECE e-Station (Students) webpage > Graduate > Forms
  3. To use these hardcopy form only for request mentioned in [point D. item 2 to 6].

a) For use by Coursework (M.Sc) students


b) For use by Research students (Ph.D and M.Eng)



All module requests is to be submitted to ECE Department Office for approval by stipulated deadline. Submission can be made by hand/post/fax/email. LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.

F. CHECK REGISTERED MODULE

Students may check and view modules registered for the semester by login to the “Status Check” page at http://www.gse.nus.edu.sg/online, or through myISIS or IVLE website.


Onus is on the student to check his/her module(s) registered for the semester to ensure that the correct modules are added.


G. DEGREE REQUIREMENT

  1. Students are reminded to take the relevant modules that is required or pertaining to the degree programme you are undertaking.

  2. Access the ECE e-Station (Students) for more details on the degree requirement for relevant ECE graduate degree programme.

H. ADVISORY important

  1. DO NOT submit duplicate module request form regardless of the mode of submission (hand/post/fax/email).
    • It causes double counting when we compile the waiting list for module with quota restriction.
    • Extra delay for background check on student’s module taken history.

  2. Student should plan and consider the workload of module to be taken in a semester, whether it is manageable else student might encounter difficulty in coping with studies, time management and work related issues (applicable to part time students).

  3. Students to complete the required number of modules (and applicable graduation requirement) within maximum candidature, else candidature might be terminated.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

  1. Unable to login to GSE online module registration system.

    It could be due to either one or a combination of reasons, such as:

    1. Wrong NUSNET userID.

      Check that you are using the correct format of student userID (Format of NUSNET ID: E0xxxxxx or A0xxxxxx or g0xxxxxx)

    2. Wrong password.

      Refer to Q2 in this FAQ.

    3. Negative sign indicator (NSI) in ISIS record.

      Login to “myISIS” to check the reason for the negative indicator in order to resolve this issue. Reference to Q3 in this FAQ.

    4. New student who had register late as a NUS student and accounts have not been activated by Registrar’s Office.

      Student will have to wait estimate between 1 to 3 working days to try again.

    5. Term history not activated after returning from Leave of Absence (LOA).

      Email us with your details (full name, matriculation number, degree undertaking and state issue encountered). Department will check and report the issue to Registrar’s Office to rectify this in ISIS.

  3. What happens if student have outstanding fees? What is a Negative Service Indicator (NSI)?

    When students have outstanding fees in their student account after the fee payment due date, a NSI is imposed on their student account in myISIS. The NSI has the following effects:

    • Unable to view exam results / enrol for any modules
    • Unable to obtain official / unofficial result transcripts
    • Thesis will not be examined (for research students)
    • Student status/conferment letter will be withheld
    • Degree scroll will be withheld
    • In addition, student with outstanding fees may also be terminated from their candidature of study with the University.

    Settle any outstanding fee payment at Student Service Centre; library loan or hostel issue, if applicable, and request Student Service Centre to update and lift the NSI after issues have been resolve.


  4. Unable to select/add ECE module online. No checkbox (grey off) beside the module for student to select.

    This is due to one or more of the following conditions below:

    • Did not meet the pre-requisite or co-requisite condition of the module (if any). Refer Q5 too.
    • Violation of preclusion/anti-requisite condition.
    • Allocated quota for the module has reached maximum allowed capacity.
    • Module is not open for online selection; or it is open to selected degree programme/group only.
    • Exceed the maximum number of modules allowed in a semester/candidature.


  5. I’ve met the pre-requisite or co-requisite condition of the module as I’ve taken it in previous degree programme, but unable to select online.

    • System unable to detect past history taken in NUS undergraduate record, or from different Faculty.
    • To apply using relevant module form with supporting document (transcript). Subject to approval on a case by case basis.

  6. Not able to drop a registered module online.

    This is due to one or more of the following conditions below:

    • System block as it will violate a co-requisite condition.
    • Violate the minimum number of required module to be taken in a semester.
    • Module was added in manually by ECE Admin Staff. Student to apply using relevant module form. Subject to approval on a case by case basis.


  7. How do I apply for a non ECE module? Am I allowed to apply for a non ECE module?

    Application by submitting the relevant hardcopy application form. Subject to approval on a case by case basis.


    For detailed requirement of the relevant Degree programme, refer to the ECE e-Station (Students) > graduate student > “PhD/M.Eng” or “M.Sc”. Requirement is based on the applicable cohort/intake.


  8. How do I apply for a NUS undergraduate (UG) module? Am I allowed to apply for an undergraduate (UG)?

    Application by submitting the relevant hardcopy application form. Subject to approval on a case by case basis.

  9. What are the modules I have to take? Is there any compulsory module I must take? How many?

  10. I have opted for an M.Sc specialisation, what are the modules I have to take? (applicable to M.Sc students only)

    Refer to ECE e-Station (Students) for the list of required core and elective module in the various M.Sc Specialisation. Requirement is based on the applicable cohort/intake.


  11. I register late as a NUS student. I have problem enrolling for modules.

    The student’s record might not have been updated or synchronised to the various satellite system yet due to the late registration. This might take between 1 to 3 working days to be resolved.


  12. Can I reserve or hold a place for a module?

    No. This is to be fair to all students. Online module registration is on a first come first serve basis. Manual request is subject to approval on a case by case basis.


  13. What is the Graduation requirement for my higher degree programme?

    For detailed requirement of the relevant Degree programme, refer to the ECE e-Station (Students) > graduate student > “PhD/M.Eng” or “M.Sc”. Requirement is based on the applicable cohort/intake.
