IT is extensively used in conducting each course. Besides iVLE, an Internet based e-Learning system, e-Learning Hub, was developed in 2000 which focuses on creating a learner centered environment for students and is a complement to iVLE. The current version of e-Learning Hub supports the following functions: a collection of multimedia demonstrations for visualizing the difficult DSP concepts, a SMS-based instant feedback system that allows student to answer the quiz using their mobile phone during a lecture, an intelligent tutorial system that is capable of diagnosis of student's answer automatically and tracking student performance, a virtual simulation system that enables student to conduct DSP experiments anytime anywhere, and a virtual lab to guide student writing DSP algorithm using MATLAB. Below is a detailed list.
2006: Developing an adaptive learning method for large classroom teaching. The proposed method uses an adaptive learning system that creates an open learning environment for students in higher education. The proposed approach acknowledges the differences in learning styles of individual learners and encourages learners to actively participate in the learning process. The system is built upon Kolb's learning cycle and learning style theory and makes use of advanced IT technologies to maximize the learning efficiency in the large classrooms. It provides a mechanism to track and analyze online learning behavior, identify the learning style, adjust learning contents, and generate personalized learning environment for each learner.
2005: Developed a web-based adaptive tutorial system to create a one-to-one learning experience in a large classroom. The system is designed to monitor and update the learning progress of a student in a large classroom. It creates a feedback loop between educator and learner. The feedback mechanism enables students to view their own progress and provides timely information on student' performance to the instructor such that the instructor is able to adjust the teaching emphasis to meet the needs of the whole class.
2004: Developed an intelligent SMS tutorial system which is able to diagnose students' inputs automatically and response to students with feedback message. This module was integrated into e-learning hub.
2003: Developed an online multimedia course material for DSP course.
2003: Developed an online tutorial system that allows Lecturers to create their tutorial online using a web browser and generate marking scripts automatically. Students are able to submit their answers from anywhere at anytime through the Internet. At the core of the system is an intelligent auto-marking system which diagnoses the answers including symbolic ones. This module was integrated into e-learning hub.
2002: Developed the virtual DSP simulations for EE3101/TE3101. These simulations were integrated into e-learning hub.
2002: Developed more multimedia demonstrations to explain the difficult concepts in the digital signal processing. These demonstrations were integrated into e-learning hub.
2001: Launched an Educator-to-Learning portal, e-learning hub, which includes multimedia demonstrations, visualizations, and online lab.
2001: Developed a web-based digital signal processing laboratory which allows the students to access the Matlab using web browser. This web site supports the course EE3101.
2000: Developed a web-based circuit simulation system to allow students access to Hspice circuit simulation software from anytime and anywhere through a web browser.
2000: Developed a web-based digital circuit synthesis system for enabling digital design over the Internet.
1998: Set up an IC design web site on IVLE which includes the User's Guide and Manuals for major IC design tools.
1998: Designed and implemented a high speed ATM network backbone at CAE/CAD/CAM Centre to facilitate IT in teaching, including video-on-demand, virtual classroom, virtual campus, and distance learning. |
