Workshop Aims

The main goal of this workshop is to act as a forum for debate and discussion on the interaction design of technology for senior users, bringing together perspectives from researchers and designers.

The overarching objective is to examine how methodologies and processes of interaction design should be adapted so as to motivate acceptance of technology and interactive products by the elderly.

Themes

The themes of the workshop are three-fold:

  • Identifying key ways or roles that the elderly can play in the design process
  • Formulating user requirements for elderly interaction design
  • Understanding factors that influence elderly adoption and acceptance of technologies

Some of the research questions that will provide broad areas of discussion for the workshop are as follows:-

  • What are the challenges of gaining access to the elderly user group and how to solve them?
  • What kinds of technologies are relevant for the elderly to use?
  • What design issues are pertinent when designing for a senior audience?
  • How can the contexts and needs of the elderly influence elderly interaction design?
  • What methods and techniques should be used to design technology for the elderly?
  • What evaluation methods can be used to assess technology designed for the elderly?
