Stephen Hanly

Stephen Hanly received the B.Sc. (Hons) and M. Sc. degrees from the University of Western Australia, and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics in 1994 from Cambridge University, UK. From 1993 to 1995, he was a Post-doctoral member of technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories. From 1996 to 2009, he was with the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is presently an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore.

His research interests include information theory, signal processing, and applications thereof to communications, especially wireless networks. He was a co-recipient of the best paper award at IEEE Infocom 1998, and the 2001 Joint IEEE Communications Society and Information Theory Society best paper award, both for his work with David Tse (Berkeley).

He serves the IEEE as a reviewer, and has been an associate editor with IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (2005-2009), and a guest editor with IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (2010). He has served on numerous technical program committees, and was the technical co-chair for the 2005 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory held in Adelaide, Australia. He is a member of the IEEE Information Theory Society chapters and awards committee.
