Admission to Electrical Engineering
Candidates who are interested in the B.Eng. (Electrical
Engineering) programme may choose to
apply for common admission into the Faculty
of Engineering (FoE) or direct entry into the Department of Electrical
& Computer Engineering (ECE).
For candidates admitted into the FoE, they follow a common
first year of study. Subsequently, they will be streamed in their second year,
in accordance to their choice and academic performance, into one of seven
possible disciplines. Depending on which discipline a candidate is streamed
into, the completion of the degree programme follows the curriculum structure
prescribed by the respective programmes.
For direct entries into the ECE Department, candidates
follow a course of study in the first year that includes some modules specific
to the B.Eng. (Electrical Engineering) programme. They proceed to complete
their degree programme following a prescribed curriculum structure. Information
about the curriculum can be found in the following pages.
For candidates who hold a Diploma from the Polytechnics, they are exempted from up to 38 modular credits (MC) which is approximately equivalent to 2 semesters’ or 1 year’s worth of academic load. They join the B.Eng. (Electrical Engineering) programme in Year 2 where they study a combination of year 1 and 2 modules. They proceed to complete their degree programme following a prescribed curriculum structure and generally, this can be completed in 3 years with an average load of 40 MCs per year.
