Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) are among the most exciting and challenging areas of engineering, and are the key disciplines driving a highly technological society. Electrical and computer engineers have no doubt been the instruments for the evolution of technology by being able to effectively apply and integrate fundamental concepts and knowledge from various related disciplines. They lead in creating new ideas and innovations, and designing and developing new products.
The ECE Department is made up of faculty members who are well respected in their areas of research and education. They engage in research activities encompassing a wide range of areas such as automatic control, biomedical engineering, communications, computer-aided design, machine vision and image processing, computer systems, digital signal processing, electronics, electrical energy, information networking, intelligent systems, parallel and distributed processing, microelectronic materials and devices, microwave engineering, nano technology VLSI integrated circuit design.
The Department currently offers two full-time undergraduate degree programmes, Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering, as well as graduate programmes leading to the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (coursework-based), Master of Engineering (research-based) and Doctor of Philosophy
Our ECE undergraduate programmes are designed to graduate versatile engineers for immediate employment and to prepare them for challenges ahead. The programmes have strong emphasis on scientific and engineering fundamentals and a high degree of flexibility which can provide a wide diversity of educational experiences. It provides a mix of education, business and research opportunities which is unique in its diversity and richness, allowing the students to plan their individual educational experience in accordance with their career aspirations.
Graduates from the BEng(Computer Engineering) programme can look forward to bright and challenging careers in research, design and development, IT management, media and other exciting fields. Apart from commercial and government organisations, graduates of the programme are also highly sought after by technology intensive companies that include:
