There
are two Computer Engineering (CPE) programmes in the National University of Singapore: the
Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering or B.Eng. (Computer Engineering) offered by the
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the
Bachelor of Computing in Computer Engineering offered by the
Department of Computer Science (CS).
The CS offering trains "a computer scientist with a focus on computer hardware". The programme leverages on the strengths of the School of Computing in various aspects of computer science. In contrast, the ECE offering leverages on the electrical engineering curriculum to train students with a unique combination in electronic hardware and software skills. In this respect, computer engineering students from the ECE Department can look forward to a wide spectrum of related areas necessary for computer engineering systems development including IC design, data storage and communications. The CPE programme at the ECE Department is also a professional degree which means that its graduates will be eligible to practise as engineers and subsequently register as professional engineers with the Professional Engineers Board, Institute of Engineers Singapore. The programme is also fully accredited by the Institute of Electrical Engineers, UK, at the 4-year Masters level.
