Speaker : Dr. Roger Tay, Senior Director of Product Engineering, Motorola Singapore

Synopsis

The speaker will talk briefly about the legacy and vision of Motorola and also touch on some technical challenges that Motorola engineers can expect to encounter. He will also share about his own career progression and the many exciting opportunities that he has enjoyed in the 20 years with Motorola after graduating with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering.

 

Biography

Dr. Roger Tay received his B.S. and the M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, in 1983 and 1985, respectively, and the Ph. D. degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, Switzerland, in 1997.

In 1987, he joined the Research and Development Department in Motorola Singapore. In 1990, he was transferred to the Florida Electromagnetics Laboratory (Motorola Labs) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 1993, he was invited as an Academic Guest to the ETH for eight months. After the Swiss assignment, he returned to Motorola Corporate Electromagnetics Research Laboratory in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 1999, he transferred to the Singapore Design Center of Motorola Singapore. He set up the Electromagnetics Laboratory and was Director for the Advanced Engineering within the Singapore Design Center. He holds ten U.S. patents and several pending patents and has contributed many papers in many professional journals and conferences.

Dr. Tay has been appointed Daniel E. Noble Fellow, Distinguished Innovator and Motorola Science Advisory Board Associates and an external advisor to the Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT’IS), Switzerland. He is also a member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation, and Electromagnetics Compatibility Societies.
