Empowering Your Future at ECE

Out of every three graduates in engineering in USA and Canada, one is an electronics engineer. Out of a total of 5700 undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering, 2000 of them (representing more than 35% of the total figure in the whole faculty), are from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the largest department in the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore.

These are not figures by chance. They represent the worldwide demand for engineers in this discipline from a solid base of industries in manufacturing, infocomm and media industry as well as the service industry.

Indeed, according to latest figures released by EDB, electronics has remained the bedrock of Singapore's manufacturing and services, and is expected to grow strongly into the next 15 years. Electronics output is expected to grow from S$64 billions to S$117 billions in 2018, and constitute 40% of the total manufacturing output. Out of about 16,000 new jobs created in 2005, more than 8000 are in electronics. More than 50% of new investment in manufacturing in 2005 is in electronics. These opportunities are abundant, not only from within the rich and established base of electronics industries, but also from striving new sectors in nanotechnology, biomedical electronics, mobile communication, and interactive media.
