International Laser Prize, Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis (2000)
Asean Outstanding Achievement Engineering Award (1999)
The National Technology Award (1998)

Several Laser microprocessing technologies in the electronics industry (like data storage and semiconductor) have been developed and commercialised by our academic staff, Associate Professor Lu Yong Feng and his team of postgraduate students and  research engineers. Together they have created outstanding research breakthrough in the followings:

direct application of laser surface cleaning and laser deflash in industries;

development and commercialization of laser texturing and related technologies

outstanding research results on laser surface processing.

As a pioneer in the developing of a number of laser microprocessing technologies in industry, Associate Professor Lu has been awarded both the National Technology Award in 1998 and also the Asean Outstanding Achievement Engineering Award in 1999. Infact, he is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts in the laser surface cleaning field. The theoretical models of laser cleaning, which he has developed, fit the experimental results well and have been successfully used to predict  some new cleaning results in complex chemical and physical environments.This  technology has been commercialized to the IC industries.

In addition to laser cleaning, laser deflash, laser tagging, laser bumping, laser etching, laser inspection and laser texturing have also been developed and applied to industry.

The accumulated research achievements in the above have resulted in over 200 technical papers in international journals and conferences.
